Mom
Our messy new neighbors are expecting. The nest was barely completed, the mortar (mud) not even completely dried, when the mom started laying. The results? Four beautiful blue eggs.
We'll keep you updated on the progress and try to save some of the blue shells for the grand kids to study up close when they visit.
One problem is that the nest is only about 8 inches from the back door. Every time we go out we get severely reprimanded by the birds. They are obviously very concerned parents!

That's so cool, but how do you know which is the Mom/Dad!? Hope we get to see them when we visit in a few weeks.
you lift their legs, duh!
whenever i go outside right now i have starlings dive bombing me all the time. sometimes i actually feel like the lady on "birds" i just run around screaming!only for fun though:)
lifting their legs is like putting salt on their tail, simple in concept but more difficult in operational deployment, and it's not that here hips are wider either, although after laying 4 eggs they have a right to be. The best way to tell is the dad's coloring is more vivid.
